How do same-day crowns work?
The process starts with a pleasant greeting from our lovely receptionist at the Life Dentistry office. Once comfortably in the dental chair, Dr. Martin will take a digital scan of your teeth and mouth. This modern, 3D imaging technology eliminates the need for messy impressions because it works in conjunction with our CEREC machine. Through this advanced technology, the 3D scan is converted to a model that will become your new ceramic crown.
What are the benefits of same-day crowns?
- No more dental impressions – Instead of using traditional dental impressions that require you to place a messy putty in your mouth, CEREC uses a 3D scanner. This means that you won’t have to deal with the often uncomfortable process of dental impressions.
- Same-day treatment – CEREC crowns can be manufactured by Dr. Martin in just a few minutes once your teeth have been scanned. The process is fast, easy, and convenient for patients and gives you more time to do the things you love.
- No temporary crowns required – Traditional crowns must be made in a lab, which can take up to 2-3 weeks. While you wait, you’ll need to wear a temporary crown to protect your tooth, which can be quite uncomfortable. With CEREC, this is no longer necessary!
- Preserve more of your natural tooth – CEREC gives Dr. Martin greater precision when sculpting your crown and removing enamel from your natural tooth. In turn, this ensures that more of your natural tooth is preserved.
Versatile treatment options using the CEREC machine
CEREC same-day crowns are by far the most popular treatment that the technology is used for. However, CEREC can be used for much more than just dental crowns. Some types of CEREC blocks can be used to make partial crowns, inlays and onlays, and veneers. Using CEREC, these procedures can be completed in just a single appointment, giving patients the option to restore and improve their smiles quickly, without waiting for multiple appointments or lab-made restorations.

CEREC treatment is fast, simple, and minimally-invasive. First, your mouth will be cleaned and numbed, and a small amount of enamel will be removed from your tooth to prepare it for crown placement. Using a special 3D scanner, images will be taken of your mouth and uploaded to our in-office CEREC machine.
Dr. Martin will then create a customized dental crown, which will be milled by the machine in just a few minutes. After this, he will check the crown to make sure that it fits properly, and make minor adjustments if necessary. Then, he will cement the crown into place permanently. You’ll leave our office with a refreshed smile in just 1-2 hours!
